Children want to shape their rights in the digital world

Children represent approximately one-third of all internet users globally, according to UNICEF, with many routinely accessing digital platforms and emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, from increasingly young ages.

Children’s rights mechanisms such as the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, have warned that their rights in these spaces are routinely overlooked. Five years after the Committee issued its General comment No. 25 — comprehensive guidance on children's rights in digital environments — implementation continues to lag, according to a report released by Eurochild and UNICEF earlier this year.
